What are usage limits?
Like other AI products such as ChatGPT, Rosebud sets a limit on how much AI processing you can use within a given period.
Your usage meter tracks your weekly AI usage (AI responses and generations). It does not track storage. Your journal entries stay in your account permanently even when you reach your limit.
What counts toward your usage
Your usage is based on AI-powered features, including:
- Dig Deeper conversation
- Entry reflections
- Voice transcription & text-to-speech (read aloud)
- Weekly reports
- Ask Rosebud
How quickly you use your budget depends on which AI model you're using. More capable, higher-intelligence models use more of your usage per interaction, while efficient models use less.
If you're going through your usage quickly, try switching your persona to a more efficient model under Persona → AI Model in the "Most efficient" section.
How to check your usage
Go to Settings → Subscription to see:
- % of your current cycle's budget used
- Your reset date
- An increase limits button to upgrade
As you get closer to your limit, a usage indicator also appears in the journal/compose footer, with warnings at roughly 50%, 70%, and 90% used.
Your usage limit resets weekly and any unused portion will not carry over to the next cycle.
What happens when you reach your limit
Your entries are never deleted or affected, and you can still write and finish entries while at your limit.
At 100%, Dig Deeper is blocked until your limit resets, but you can still write a single-message entry, finish the entry, and receive your entry reflection.
Blocked features become available again either on your reset date, or immediately if you upgrade to a higher tier.
Bloom vs. Thrive
Bloom and Thrive share the same core features, conversations, Dig Deeper, reflections, and memory. Thrive adds a larger usage budget and access to more advanced models on top of Bloom; it doesn't unlock any additional features.
The "2x" and "5x" in Thrive's name refer only to the size of the usage budget, both tiers unlock the same advanced models. Thrive 5x simply allows much more usage before you hit a limit.
- Upgrading takes effect immediately. Your new, higher limit applies right away and a new usage cycle starts from the day you upgrade, so you regain access without waiting for your old reset date. Your reset date also moves to about a month after the upgrade.
- Downgrading takes effect at your next renewal. Nothing changes mid-cycle, you keep your current tier, limit, and reset date until then, and the lower limit and a fresh cycle begin at renewal.
Managing your subscription
Thrive is available through the mobile apps only (App Store on iOS, Google Play on Android). There's currently no web option for Thrive.
If you upgraded your plan partway through a billing cycle and see unexpected charges, you most likely haven't overpaid. What happens next depends on which app store handles your billing.
Your statement may briefly show each plan's full charge, but once the prorated credits post, you only pay for the time you actually spent on each plan.
